The Ventura County Sheriff's Office - Criminal Records is seeking a Records Supervisor I to oversee shift staff, assess workload, assign duties, and ensure timely completion of tasks in the criminal records division.
The ideal candidate brings strong records management knowledge, familiarity with state and federal record laws, and experience training and leading teams; duties include data entry, responding to inquiries from law enforcement and the public, and occasional court testimony.
Under direction, supervises personnel assigned to shift; assesses workload requirements and assigns staff to ensure the functions are completed; trains staff in all functions of criminal records; performs specialized work; or other assignments and performs related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable law enforcement records professional skilled in records management, applicable laws, and handling, processing, and releasing police records. They bring proven lead or training experience, strong communication and judgment, and proficiency with records-related computer systems.
The Sheriff's Records Supervisor I is distinguished from Sheriff's Senior Records Technician by the supervisor's full supervisory responsibility for an assigned shift.
Records Supervisor I: $34.40 - $48.17 hourly
Sheriff's Records Supervisors are represented by Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
Considerable law enforcement records experience that has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The required knowledge, skills, and abilities can also be obtained by three (3) years of experience in law enforcement records with at least one (1) year of experience as a lead worker or trainer.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a valid CLETS certification.
NOTE: The ability to communicate effectively in writing must be demonstrated in the completion of the employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
Records Management certification.
Thorough knowledge of: the principles and practices of records management; policies, procedures, and methods of law enforcement pertaining to the preparation, utilization, distribution, retention, retrieval, and release of police reports, arrest records, and a variety of other records and reports; federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to records; computer operating systems and software related to processing and maintaining records; principles of training, supervision, and performance evaluation.
Working ability to: supervise, schedule, train and organize the work of subordinate staff; select, monitor, evaluate, and recommend discipline for subordinate staff; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; make independent judgments; remain calm and make rational decisions in hostile or emergency situations; maintain accurate records; perform basic math functions and cashiering; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, representatives from other governmental departments and agencies, sworn personnel, and members of the general public; prepare reports; and ensure that the training and staffing needs of the unit are achieved.
Thoroughly skilled in: computer keyboard and mouse operation.
Work is typically performed on rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, holidays and wearing of a uniform.
