Job description

The Position

Under supervision, the Sheriff’s Records Officer I performs a wide variety of specialized and/or technical law enforcement support duties within the Sheriff’s Department.

Continuing Filing Exam Cut‑offs

5:00 PM on the following dates: 2/23/26, 3/23/26, 4/20/26, 5/26/26, 6/22/26, 7/20/26, 8/24/26, 9/21/26, 10/19/26, 11/23/26, 12/21/26 (final).

Employment Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of paid, full‑time work experience performing clerical, general record‑keeping, and/or accounting work.
  • OR one year of paid, full‑time work experience in a position involving public contact, which included interpreting/clarifying rules, regulations, policies, or procedures.

Note: “Experience” means full‑time paid experience unless otherwise stated. Part‑time paid experience may be accumulated and pro‑rated.

General Qualifications
  • Valid California Driver’s License, Class C or higher (required prior to appointment).
  • Stand, walk, and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Work various shifts to provide 24‑7 coverage, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Work in a detention facility and be in direct contact with inmates.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Work in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Wear and maintain a designated Sheriff’s Department uniform.
Background / Criminal History

The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidate’s ability to perform the job duties unless mitigating circumstances exist.

Background checks may include personal and professional reference checks, credit history checks, Social Security Number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information, and driving history.

Probationary Period

Six (6) months.

Formula Rate Examination (Weighted 100%)

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their supplemental questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination. The score will determine ranking on the eligible/employment list.
