Job summary

ICL is seeking an Unit Counselor to support residents in our onsite shelter programs. You will provide care, socialization, crisis intervention, and monitor facilities, ensuring resident safety and wellbeing.

Responsibilities include orientation, communicating processes, providing social support, arranging transportation, assisting with meals, documenting interactions, and participating in incident reporting and required trainings. Onsite work with potential to participate in crisis response.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some experience in a human services setting.
• Must obtain a food handlers certificate within 45 days of hire.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
• Work Eligibility: authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Participate in or conduct orientation for new residents.
• Communicate program processes and activities to residents.
• Provide social support and motivational interviewing interventions.
• Provide transportation for residents to appointments as needed.
• Assist with meal-related activities including warming, serving, and cleanup.
• Document neighborhood activities and resident interactions.
• Participate in crisis intervention as needed.
• Attend management, supervision, and required training meetings.
• Report serious incidents and complete required incident documentation.
• Conduct hourly rounds and ensure resident wellbeing.
• Arrive to work on time and as scheduled.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
