Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California is seeking a Shelter Support Staff member in Seattle, WA, with a 7:15pm–5:45am schedule and a pay rate of $25.05/hour. The role is regular full-time/non-exempt and requires in-person interviews in Seattle.

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in public contact/customer service.
  • Experience in social service shelter/residential preferred.
  • WA Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crisis and inquiry telephone calls by providing support, information, and referrals to other appropriate social service.
  • Provide assistance to residents to ensure a safe environment, including compliance with rules.
  • Conduct periodic walking inspections of all areas of the facility to identify hazards and initiate corrective actions.
  • Respond to emergency situations, making independent decisions within policy guidelines.
  • Provide crisis intervention and institute security procedures; notify police, fire, EMS and supervisory authorities as needed.
  • Conduct client intakes and departure processes per department policy.
  • Provide orientation, support, and supervision to staff and volunteers.
  • Aid in training of new staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Collaborate with Salvation Army staff and external agencies respectfully.
  • Maintain case records and required forms and reports per policy.

Location: SoDo (1039 6th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98134)

Schedule: Sunday, Wednesday-Friday, 7:15pm - 5:45am

Pay: $25.05/hour

Status: Regular Full-Time/Non-Exempt

The Shelter Support Staff are responsible for completion of various assigned tasks including, but not limited to scheduling client intakes via telephone referral, conducting client interviews and processing guest intake data, and conducting security rounds. The Shelter Support Staff works closely with participants of the King County Shelter Program. Whether providing basic needs, services, or de‑escalating negative client interactions, the position receives daily supervision from the King County Shelter Program Manager, Supervisor, or designated assistant.

Education & Experience

Paid Vacation
  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
