Job summary

Lantern Community Services Inc. is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor for a single male adult shelter in Far Rockaway, Queens.

You will oversee shift operations, supervise Residential Aides, and coordinate with Social Services, Maintenance and Security to ensure safe, consistent services for clients experiencing mental health challenges. The role requires a minimum of three years in shelter work with supervisory experience, strong crisis management, and ability to handle fast-paced

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of three years shelter experience, with supervisory experience.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
• Certification in Fire Safety or ability to obtain (F-80).
• Food handler certification required or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shelter operations during shifts, including sign-ins, curfews, supply distribution, and incident reporting.
• Supervise Residential Aides to ensure safe, consistent service delivery.
• Ensure clients access to meals, laundry, toiletries, and medications.
• Lead staff in Safe Crisis Management and respond to emergencies.
• Document new and returning clients and DHS submissions.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, Security, vendors, and responders as needed.
• Monitor video surveillance and fire alarms; perform safety rounds.
• Assist with fire drills, emergency response, and safety procedures.
