Job summary

Phoenix House is seeking a dedicated Shelter Shift Supervisor for our Jamaica, NY site. You will lead Residential Aide staff, oversee daily operations, and respond to crises with professionalism while connecting clients to health, housing, and community services in NYS.

The role offers a full-time schedule Sunday-Thursday, 2:00 PM–11:00 PM EST, with a focus on safety, stability, and compassionate support for individuals working toward recovery and independence.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in social service.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assign job tasks to Residential Aide staff.
  • Assist residential aides with daily activities and crisis management.
  • Assist case managers in connecting clients with NYS healthcare, mental health, and housing services.
  • Attend staff meetings and required training.
  • Maintain client files and data in systems.
  • Assist with quality assurance reports and safety inspections.
  • Other duties within scope.

Summary

We are seeking a qualified and capable Shelter Shift Supervisor at our location in Jamaica, NY. This is a full‑time position with the following schedule: Sunday‑Thursday, 2:00 PM‑11:00 PM EST.

The Shelter Shift Supervisor plays a key leadership role in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment for individuals working toward greater stability and independence.

This position provides daily supervision and direction to Residential Aide staff, supports effective shift operations, and responds to client needs and crisis situations with professionalism, sound judgment, and compassion. Working closely with case managers and other program staff, the Shelter Supervisor helps connect clients with essential healthcare, mental health, housing, and community‑based services throughout New York State. Essential Duties
  • Oversee and assign job tasks to Residential Aide staff.
  • Assist residential aides with daily activities, as well as intervening in crisis management.
  • Assist case managers in helping clients identify appropriate programs such as healthcare, mental health, and housing services within NYS.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and required training, in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain client files in accordance with internal, local, state, and federal requirements and enter data in computerized systems.
  • Assist with quality assurance quarterly reports (i.e., fire drills, in‑service training, safety inspections, satisfaction surveys, building and vehicle reports, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned within job scope.

  • High School diploma
