Job summary

Phoenix House in New York is seeking a Recovery Support Specialist for the Wainscott/East Hampton area. You will support shift changes, provide crisis intervention counseling, and conduct group intake while ensuring residents follow daily program schedules and participate in events.

The role emphasizes safety, supervision, and mentoring residents toward successful program outcomes, with responsibilities spanning attendance tracking, transport, and medication room assistance.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Credentialed CASAC-T in good standing.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Trained to dispense medications to clients in case of emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure patients adhere to the day-to-day program schedule and track attendance.
  • Monitor participation in program events and activities.
  • Conduct room/bed checks (minimally every 30 minutes) for safety and presence.
  • Perform routine facility checks for safety and security.
  • Review client property on admission for compliance with rules.
  • Conduct contraband searches and drug screen administration per policy.
  • Lead shifts to ensure schedule adherence and proper documentation.
  • Mentor patients on behavior, rules, school/work responsibilities and social interactions.
  • Provide safe transportation to off-site appointments as needed.
  • Assist in the medication room when required.

As a Recovery Support Specialist at Phoenix House

You Will Have Responsibilities Including But Not Limited To
  • Ensures that patients adhere to the day-to-day program schedule, tracking attendance as required.
  • Monitors participation in program events and activities.
  • Conducts and documents appropriately room/bed checks (minimally every thirty minutes) to ensure resident safety and presence.
  • Conducts routine facility checks to ensure facility safety and security.
  • Reviews client property/items upon admission or receipt to ensure compliance with facility and program rules.
  • Conducts contraband searches and drug screen analysis administration in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assumes lead duties for shift(s) as assigned, which includes ensuring that the program schedule is followed, all duties are assigned and completed by team during the shift and critical incidents are reported to the Manager on Call and appropriately documented.
  • Mentors patients towards success in program including but not limited to behavior modification, program rules, school work, job responsibilities and appropriate social interactions with peers, family and staff.
  • Provides safe, timely, and supervised transportation of patients to off-site appointments or activities as needed.
  • Assist in the medication room, as needed.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC-T) in good standing
Required Experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience working in a substance use disorder treatment setting, including working with patients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Trained to dispense medications to clients in case of emergency.
