Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Monitor I - HSH to help ensure safety at the shelter and support program participants on-site. The role includes screening entrants, patrolling facilities, and documenting incidents, with driving responsibilities for licensed monitors where required.

Requirements include fingerprint clearance, a High School diploma or GED, and 6 months of relevant experience with vulnerable populations. A California driver license is preferred for driving tasks.

Qualifications

• Ability to deal with difficult, uncooperative clients in a compassionate manner.
• Requires fingerprint clearance and background checks.
• 6 months experience working with homeless and/or vulnerable populations.
• CA driver license preferred for some driving tasks.
• Must complete VOALA safety and mandated trainings.

Responsibilities

• Monitor shelter entrance and authorize entry/exit to ensure safety.
• Screen bags and personal belongings entering the shelter.
• Patrol premises and report safety concerns or incidents.
• Ensure shelter safety; assist with emergencies and rule compliance.
• Support clients/participants; assist with meals, classes, and activities.
• Drive participants as directed for licensed monitors and maintain vehicle logs.
