Job summary

Mercy House is seeking a Safety Specialist to provide supportive services and logistical support for the Emergency Shelter Program. The role focuses on shelter safety, client-focused care, and trauma-informed housing services during designated shifts.

Responsibilities include shelter setup, security, perimeter checks, and crisis intervention. The position requires flexibility for varied shifts and the ability to work with a diverse client population in a humane, dignified manner.

Qualifications

• Experience with crisis intervention and crisis de-escalation.
• Ability to work with a diverse population and provide trauma-informed housing-focused shelter services.
• Ability to direct and professionally control crowds while preserving dignity.
• Understanding of fair housing and related legal concerns.
• Self-motivated with ability to manage a high volume of emails and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Support shelter operations and safety.
• Assist with shelter setup and maintenance; maintain cleanliness and safety.
• Provide traffic control and gate service; perform perimeter checks and firewatch.
• Record daily summaries and perform administrative duties.
• Assist with vendor orders, inventory, and supplies organization.
• Support guest services and program activities as needed.
