Job summary

S:US is seeking a Residential Specialist to work at their Brooklyn men's shelter. Located at Ralph Avenue, this role focuses on maintaining a safe environment, enforcing house rules, and supporting residents with crisis intervention and daily needs.

Responsibilities include incident reporting, staff communications, and assisting residents with access to services. This full-time position offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth within the organization.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or high school diploma/GED with 3+ years social service experience.
• F02 certification and Security license mandatory or may be obtained within 6 months if hired.
• Trauma-informed, client-centered approach with anti-oppressive lens.
• Neutral, non-judgmental language when engaging residents.
• Flexible schedule as needed.
• Experience with homelessness, substance misuse, and harm reduction.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular rounds to ensure safety and residents' wellbeing.
• Enter activity logs and shift notes promptly and accurately.
• Assist with admissions paperwork.
• Escort residents to services and activities outside the facility.
• Meet with Shift Supervisor for supervision.
• Plan and run resident self-care activities and groups.
• Coordinate with case managers on tasks.
• Provide program orientation and office coverage.
• Follow emergency procedures and attend trainings.
• Provide meal coordination and support.
