Job summary

Interfaith Works seeks a dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our shelter-based teams in Montgomery County, MD. You will use your lived experience to build trust with guests, provide recovery coaching, and connect individuals to behavioral health, housing, and community resources.

You may work at multiple IW shelters depending on program needs. Ideal candidates bring a high school diploma or GED, plus relevant credentialing preferred.

Qualifications

• Lived experience relevant to the population served (e.g., homelessness, behavioral health, or recovery).
• Willingness to use lived expertise to support others.
• High school diploma or GED required; related education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build trust with shelter guests and engage them using peer support.
• Provide outreach, counseling, recovery coaching, advocacy, and care coordination.
• Help clients develop recovery or wellness plans and identify goals.
• Coordinate with case managers and healthcare providers to connect services.
