Job summary

Animal Friends Humane Society is seeking an experienced Operations Director to provide senior leadership for shelter day‑to‑day operations, animal care, staffing, intake/adoptions, and facility management.

The role requires hands‑on leadership, data‑driven decision making, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, emotionally demanding environment. Collaboration with the Business Director and Board is essential.

Qualifications

• Meaningful management experience in animal welfare operations.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Ability to develop, implement and monitor operational procedures and performance systems.
• Experience managing staffing, schedules, budgets, facilities, and resources.
• Experience collaborating with a Board of Trustees and senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee daily shelter operations with a visible leadership presence.
• Oversee animal care, intake/adoptions, foster/rescue, and front desk coordination.
• Lead staffing, scheduling, coaching, and performance management within established policies.
• Monitor operational performance, capacity, and safety, using data to drive improvements.
• Coordinate with the Business Director on HR, finance, and compliance matters.
