Job summary

Hope House, a Preble Street low-barrier shelter located in Bangor, Maine, is hiring a Shelter Navigator (temporary, full-time) to ensure resident safety, provide daily living skills support, and conduct crisis interventions. The role involves documenting data, participating in staff coverage across shifts, and aligning with program goals and agency mission.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent; preferred Bachelor’s in social work or related field and direct service

Qualifications

• Understanding of the Preble Street mission and harm reduction.
• Understanding of low-barrier services and related challenges.
• Understanding of mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
• Ability to establish and maintain boundaries within diverse populations.
• Effective crisis intervention skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety of Hope House residents and support daily living skills.
• Facilitate skills-building activities and crisis interventions during shifts.
• Cover shifts as assigned to ensure 24-hour coverage.
• Document and report information and data as required.
• Collaborate with the Hope House team to achieve program outcomes.
