Job summary

Downtown Emergency Services Center in Seattle seeks energized Service Coordinators to manage day-to-day operations at The Gateway. You will work as part of a large team to deliver critical survival services to our most vulnerable citizens.

This role involves maintaining order, intervening in crises, coordinating client services, and supporting the daily functioning of shelter operations. DESC emphasizes compassionate care, safety, and collaboration with outside agencies.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of homelessness and characteristics of homeless adult populations.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from various backgrounds.
• Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant or bizarre behavior.
• Commitment to cooperation and continuity across programs, and respectful treatment of clients.

Responsibilities

• Maintain order and enforce agency rules and policies.
• Intervene in client crises (medical, mental health, interpersonal).
• Provide information on social/health services and procedures to clients.
• Refer clients to more extensive services or outside programs when needed.
• Screen referrals from other agencies.
• Register clients and document services rendered during shift hours.
• Recruit and supervise client volunteers for regular tasks.
• Assist with food service preparation, organization, and cleanup.
