Job summary

Direct Care St Patrick's Women's Shelter in Somerville, MA is seeking a compassionate worker to supervise guests and support their physical and emotional needs. The role includes answering calls, greeting visitors, and responding to emergencies while maintaining professional boundaries.

The position involves crisis counseling, referrals, meal prep, and shift log documentation. A background in human services or related experience with the homeless is preferred, with strong teamwork and Microsoft

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field preferred but not required.
• At least 1 year of experience with homeless individuals or shelter work.
• Training and knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate clearly and work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise guests, ensure safety and security of the shelter.
• Answer phones, greet guests and respond to emergencies promptly.
• Provide crisis counseling and referrals to area services.
• Maintain shelter log and document shift activities accurately.
• Prepare meals, assist with daily prep and service.
• Attend internal and external meetings and travel locally if required.
• Uphold Catholic Charities philosophy and professional boundaries.
