Job summary

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston seeks a Direct Care worker for St Patrick's Women’s Shelter in Somerville. You will supervise guests, respond to emergencies, and provide crisis counseling within a compassionate team environment.

Daily duties include guest intake, meal preparation, safety enforcement, and referrals. Must maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality; CPR/First Aid may be required; flexible to work holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field preferred but not required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience with homeless individuals or shelter work preferred.
• Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues is beneficial.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Supervise safety and security of shelter guests and respond to emergencies.
• Greet guests/visitors and answer phone calls.
• Provide crisis counseling and assess guest needs.
• Record shift activities in shelter log and coordinate with staff.
• Prepare meals and assist with daily service for guests.
• Coordinate referrals and information for area services.
