Job summary

YMCA of Central Ohio is hiring a full-time Shelter Team Member for the 2nd shift (2:00 PM–12:00 AM) at the Van Buren Shelter. You will engage with guests, support facility operations, and assist individuals experiencing homelessness with dignity and compassion.

Role requires strong crisis intervention skills and a heart for social responsibility, with a $2/hour night differential for hours 8 PM–8 AM. Join a trauma-informed, collaborative team focused on community impact.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; an associate’s degree is preferred.
• At least 1+ year working with low-income population or equivalent experience.
• Must have crisis intervention abilities to resolve incidents promptly.
• Ability to relate sensitively to individuals with mental illness, substance use, or traumatic histories.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the point of contact with guests in the Men’s Overflow Shelter Program.
• Perform daily operations, including phone handling, alarm systems, and data entry.
• Monitor building access and maintain bed counts and safety procedures.
• Communicate guest needs to leadership and document shift reports or incidents.
• Coordinate with social services and community resources for referrals and support.
