The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Shelter Attendant/Veterinary Assistant responsible for providing care for shelter animals, maintaining the County animal shelter, and assisting with pre- and post-operative surgical procedures. Duties include daily animal care (feeding, bathing, medicating, cleaning), shelter maintenance, assisting with surgical procedures, performing physicals, vaccinations, euthanasia, and preparing animal carcasses for disposal. The role also involves assisting with animal redemption, impounding, adoption, and supporting office and officer personnel with communication and inventory management.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency serving over 200,000 residents within 185 square miles. Responsibilities include patrol, crime investigation, arrest, custody of defendants, courtroom security, civil process, prisoner transport, and service of criminal papers.

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. Emergency work reporting may be required. Salary range: $34,008 - $45,911, determined by qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations.
High school diploma/GED and one year of veterinary assistant experience or equivalent training and experience.
