General Description
This position is at a Depot Level repair facility, focusing on maintenance of various aircraft types, including but not limited to AV-8, C-130, C-2, E-2, EA-6B, F/A-18, H-1, H-53, H-60, MQ-8, P-3, P-8, F-35, and V-22. Experience with military aviation platforms is a plus.
Duties
- Perform comprehensive aircraft sheet metal duties, including disassembly, modification, repair, and reassembly of complex metal components such as bulkheads, airframes, wings, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets, and fuel tanks, which may involve straight, curved, and irregular edges and surfaces.
- Assess and evaluate structural damage; develop patterns using parallel and radial line development; fabricate, install, and repair items from various metals including stainless steel, copper, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, and aluminum; replace sections, patch systems, and shape metals for irregular angles and curves. Use assembly joints, rivets, welds, drills, punches, and ensure all work meets appearance, strength, and tolerance standards. Pass a certification skills exam as required.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, gauges, squares, rulers, and sine bars.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of aircraft sheet metal mechanic experience; composites experience preferred.
- A&P license is a plus but not required.
- Prefer experience in military fixed-wing community or civilian heavy structure background.
- Experience in heavy structure U.S. Military, FAA, or civil aviation.
- Up to 25% travel may be required.
- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain/maintain a secret clearance.
Functional Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, crawl, kneel, and bend on level and inclined surfaces.
- Ability to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Capability to crouch, grasp, pull, push, reach, handle objects, and perform fine motor skills.
- May need to lift up to 44 pounds and carry moderate weights.
- Ability to see aircraft in flight, read gauges, and identify small objects.
- Ability to distinguish colors and judge depth.
- May operate power vehicles and equipment.
Environmental Factors
- Work may occur indoors or outdoors around machinery, vehicles, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and other environmental conditions.
- Work on slippery or uneven surfaces.
- Work may be performed alone or in a team, with possible irregular hours.
