Job description

General Description

This job is at a Depot Level repair facility maintenance on various aircraft, including but not limited to AV-8, C-130, C-2, E-2, EA-6B, F/A-18, H-1, H-53, H-60, MQ-8, P-3, P-8, F-35, and V-22. Military aviation platform experience is a plus.

Duties

Perform a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties, including disassembly, modification, repair, and reassembly of complex aircraft metal items and systems such as bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, wings, flaps, pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets, and fuel tanks. These components may have straight, curved, or irregular edges and surfaces.

Analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal systems, develop patterns using parallel and radial line development, and fabricate, install, and repair items made from various metals including stainless steel, copper, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, and aluminum. Replace sections, patch old systems, and cut, bend, and shape metals with irregular angles and curves. Use assembly joints, fastening systems, rivets, or welds, ensuring standards for appearance, strength, and tolerances are met. Certification of skills via a FRCW administered exam is required.

Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, gauges, squares, rulers, and sine bars.

Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of Aircraft Sheetmetal Mechanic experience
  • Experience with CH-53 preferred
  • A&P license is a plus but not required
  • Experience in military fixed-wing or civilian heavy structure background
  • Up to 25% travel may be required
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain/maintain a secret clearance

Functional Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, crawl, kneel, and bend on various surfaces
  • Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
  • Capable of grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, and handling objects
  • Lift up to 44 pounds; moderate carrying up to 44 pounds
  • Visual acuity to see aircraft in flight, read gauges, and identify small objects
  • Ability to communicate verbally and hear well
  • Color vision and depth perception required
  • Operate power tools, machinery, and ground support equipment

Environmental Factors

  • Work indoors and outdoors around machinery, vehicles, and scaffolds
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and chemicals
  • Work on slippery or uneven surfaces
  • Possible irregular hours
