Join Phoenix Stamping as a Sheet Metal Tooling & Fixture Design EngineerYou’ll step into a fast-paced manufacturing environment where precision engineering fuels real-world results across North America. From our facilities in Atlanta, GA; Fort Wayne, IN; and Fort Worth, TX, we produce sheet metal and rod products trusted by customers in diverse industries. Our motto says it all: “Customers first, employees always!”A Day in the LifeYour morning begins with part samples on your bench and customer drawings on your screen. You evaluate critical characteristics and intended function, then translate those needs into robust, manufacturable designs. By midday, you’re building 3D part models in Autodesk Inventor, running tolerance stack-ups with full GD&T, and shaping the tooling and check fixtures that will make repeatable quality possible. You’ll document every detail, maintain ERP part data, and prepare design packages for internal and external stakeholders. As projects advance, you lead APQP activities, prototype builds, testing and validation. You own first-article verification to approved designs, and you drive proactive design improvements for manufacturability, repeatability, and cost efficiency. You’re in the plant often—supporting manufacturing through Kata and continuous improvement—while ensuring adherence to our Design and Drawing manuals. You close the day aligning teams in Engineering Design Reviews and Project Status Meetings, coordinating engineering change requests, and scanning emerging technologies to guide R&D.Reports to: Design Engineering ManagerWhat You’ll DoEvaluate customer documentation and part samples for critical attributes and functional intentLead and contribute to advanced product quality planning (APQP)Create 3D part models and associated data for upstream/downstream usageDesign tooling and check fixtures to support productionProduce part, tooling, and fixture drawings and release packagesCreate and maintain ERP part data to enable manufacturingValidate first articles against approved designsPerform tolerance stack-ups; ensure complete GD&T applicationDevelop prototypes; oversee testing and validation activitiesServe as project launch lead from kickoff to completionTransform concepts into viable engineering solutions; spearhead design-for-manufacture improvementsSupport on-time new product launches to the production floorParticipate in Engineering Design Reviews and Project Status MeetingsEnsure compliance with Phoenix Stamping Design and Drawing manualsInvestigate and coordinate engineering changes with cross-functional teamsSupport the Engineering department and take on related duties as neededEngage in Kata and other CI practices to actively support manufacturingStay current with new technologies and industry trends; lead R&D initiativesWhat You BringB.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology3–5+ years of mechanical design experienceDeep knowledge of metal stamping processes, sheet metal design rules, and DFMProficiency with Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D CAD) and Autodesk Vault (or similar PLM)Strong communication skills; proficient in Microsoft OfficeSelf-directed, organized, team-oriented, customer-focused, accountableComfortable being hands-on in a manufacturing settingSkilled in GD&T, CAD/CAM, blueprint reading, and mechanical design fundamentalsTools & Technologies3D Modeling: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor2D Drawings and CAD/CAM toolsPLM: Autodesk Vault or equivalentImpact & GrowthWe invest in highly automated manufacturing technologies and empower engineers to lead launches and improvements.
