Sheet Metal Fitter–Welder (MIG Fabrication)Schedule: Weekends, Friday–Sunday, 6:00am–6:30pmYour day, end to endWhen you clock in Friday morning, you’ll open a set of mechanical drawings, map out weld locations, and plan your sequence so every dimension lands inside tolerance. You’ll fit, tack, and run clean beads on both mild and stainless sheet metal, switching processes and dialing in parameters as needed. Between passes, you’ll verify dimensions, adjust fixtures, and document what you see. You’ll finish by blending, grinding, and buffing to meet appearance specs—then stage your work so the next operations team can keep moving. What you’ll handleMIG welding of mild and stainless steel, including spray transferBasic fitting, coping, and positioning/alignment layoutMachine setup and parameter adjustments per department manuals; fine-tune voltageMaterial removal and finishing using grinding and sheet metal buffingReading and interpreting engineered drawings; inspecting parts to basic and complex dimensionsEvaluating weld beads for acceptable attributes and repairing improper weldsIdentifying materials (copper types, stainless grades, etc.)Knowledge of flux core and shielded wire processesTack and stud welding; squaring parts accuratelyTorch cutting and arc gougingWhat sets you up for success1–2 years of relevant welding/fabrication experienceClear English communication (written and verbal); effective teamworkComfort with hot work outside the department when neededFinish grinding and surface finishing to cosmetic specificationsUnderstanding fixtures in your area and how products fit into the larger buildWorking knowledge of AWS charts/steel tables and welding symbolsUse of core tools: tape measure, squares, clamps, fillet gauge, angle finder, etc.Convert decimals to fractions using a conversion chart with confidenceAwareness and adherence to Lock Out Tag Out proceduresConsistent compliance with company operating procedures, safety rules, and ISO requirementsWho you’ll work withReport to the Department Supervisor and collaborate daily with Machine Operators, Welders, Painters, Material Handlers, Leadpersons, and Supervisors.
