Job summary

Powell Houston-Canton is seeking a Sheet Metal Fitter–Welder (MIG Fabrication) to join our shop team. You will read drawings, plan weld sequences, fit and weld mild and stainless sheet metal, and ensure dimensions land within tolerance.

This role requires 1–2 years of welding/fabrication experience, strong English communication, and adherence to safety procedures including LOTO and ISO standards. Weekend schedule Fri-Sun 6:00am–6:30pm with a safety-first culture.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of welding/fabrication experience.
• Clear English communication; effective teamwork.
• Understand AWS charts and welding symbols.
• Ability to read engineered drawings and measure to specs.
• Familiar with Lock Out Tag Out procedures and safety rules.
• Comfort with hot work outside the department when needed.

Responsibilities

• MIG welding of mild and stainless steel, including spray transfer.
• Basic fitting, coping, and positioning/alignment; plan welds.
• Machine setup and parameter adjustments per manuals; fine-tune voltage.
• Read drawings; verify dimensions and document observations.
• Finish by grinding and buffing to cosmetic specs.
• Inspect weld beads and repair defects as needed.
• Torch cutting and arc gouging; identify materials.
