Job summary

Kitsap County is seeking a skilled Utilities Maintenance Worker, Technician, or Specialist to join the Sewer Collections team. You will operate heavy equipment, inspect infrastructure, lead field crews, and contribute to critical public works projects in Bremerton, WA.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of experience for Worker level or one (1) year for Technician level in maintenance, construction, or outdoor labor roles.
• Three (3) years of specialized experience for the Specialist level in wastewater/stormwater or related public works fields.
• Must have a current Washington Class A CDL with an N or X endorsement and no air-brake restriction, or obtain one within 12 months of employment.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications and maintain safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair sanitary sewer and stormwater systems including gravity and pressure piping, manholes, basins, and related facilities.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment and commercial vehicles (excavators, backhoes, loaders, CDL trucks, CCTV vehicles).
• Lead field crews and coordinate daily work, oversee safe practices and traffic control.
• Perform CCTV inspections, document conditions, and support maintenance planning and capital decisions.
• Read engineered plans, calculate grades/elevations, locate utilities, and rehabilitate infrastructure.
• Use specialized tools (welders, pumps, saws, HDPE welding equipment) to complete work safely.
• Support after-hours emergency response and weather-related events; assist road maintenance when needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental standards, and county maintenance practices.
