Job Summary

The Settlements Analyst is responsible for the settlement of energy trades in North America and long-term contracts, invoicing external customers, collaborating with their peers in a variety of processes such as recording accounting entries in the General Ledger, participating in Audit processes, regulatory reporting, liaising amongst other teams and supporting the growth and development of business.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that daily and monthly settlement tasks are successfully completed with respect to strict and time sensitive timelines.
  2. Validate, understand and record accounting entries for month end accruals and invoices, and ensure they respect the organization’s accounting standards.
  3. Understand the energy markets’ settlement mechanisms and charge code algorithms to develop and maintain shadow calculations in Trade Capture Systems.
  4. Conduct research and analysis to remain current with market rules that impact settlement.
  5. Optimize revenue reconciliations and seek opportunities to automate and improve validation processes and procedures.
  6. Understand the corporate structure to allocate revenue and charges to the right legal entities with respect to the business strategies.
  7. Compile and validate regulatory reports for submission to a variety of government agencies in North America.
  8. Ensure accuracy in the trade capture systems by collaborating and working closely with Trading and Data Control departments.
  9. Collaborate with external counterparties to identify and resolve settlement disputes.
  10. Participate in system improvements or implementation projects by conducting and executing User Acceptance Testing.
  11. Manage multiple tasks and/or projects in parallel with their day-to-day duties.
  12. Support Asset Management team members.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related field.
  2. Minimum two (2) years of relevant work experience in a related field, preferably in the energy industry or with strong technical expertise.
  3. Enthusiastic learner with demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  4. Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and quality of work.
  5. Self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision and as part of a large team.
  6. Ability to locate and collect data from appropriate sources and analyze it to prepare meaningful and concise reports.
  7. Ability to self-motivate and work on a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously in an ever-changing environment.
  8. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  9. Capable of solving problems and using sound judgment in the decision-making process.
  10. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  11. Advanced Excel skills (i.e. Macros, Pivot Tables, Visual Basic, Power Query).
