Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Service Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotary screw and reciprocating air compressors and related components. You will use diagnostic tools and follow manuals to ensure equipment operates to customer specifications.

Qualifications

• 2+ years troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• On-call readiness after 90 days; initial period may not be on-call.
• Physical requirements including frequent lifting and movement.

Service Technician

Location: Toledo, OH; Buffalo, NY; Elmhurst, IL; Livonia, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Hamilton, OH; Erie, PA; Ithaca, NY; & surrounding areas. The role is typically not eligible for relocation. If a position is not currently open in an area, we will reach out to qualified candidates once an opening is available.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full‑time, hourly position.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Job Overview

The Field Service Technician in our Compression Systems and Services Division serves customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all makes of rotary screw and reciprocating and/or Centac and ECC air compressors, along with additional compressed air system components. You will use precision measuring tools for diagnostic troubleshooting of compressed air equipment and be knowledgeable of all operations and parts manuals associated with all equipment.

Responsibilities

• Communicate verbally and in writing with customers and co‑workers.
• Provide technical assistance on equipment premounting and start‑ups, installations, and repairs of compressed air systems, ensuring equipment operates to the customer’s requirement with limited guidance from the Master Technician.
• Increase customer awareness of how Ingersoll Rand products, services, and solutions—including Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection—can benefit their operations.
• Perform preventative maintenance on Ingersoll Rand compressed air equipment and interact with customers to address existing and unanticipated equipment concerns.
• Collaborate with the Service Coordinator on ordering and gathering parts and supplies necessary to complete installations and repairs.
• Assist and train apprentices and Field Service Technicians.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
• Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with no major traffic violations, including DUI in the past 5 years, Hit & Run, license suspension, reckless or careless driving, or multiple minor infractions in the past 3 years.
• Ready to be on‑call; the first 90 days are not on‑call, after which on‑call weeks may occur at least every 4 weeks.
• Position is highly physical, requiring regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting/moving weights in line with safety policy.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Core Competencies

• Read wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment.
• Advanced network systems installations (IMMC/ASC, X Series Automation).
• Basic vibration troubleshooting.
• Basic air quality (system compressor/dryer – air treatment).
• Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer usage; proficiency with handheld computer (Smartphone, iPad) and network‑based systems.
• Maintain proper business travel practices in a cost‑efficient manner.

Preferences

• Industrial air compressor maintenance and knowledge.
• EPA Certification.
• Veterans/Active‑Duty Military encouraged to apply.

Travel & Work Arrangements

• Travel daily within a 3‑hour radius of the service area.
• A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided.

Pay Range

Starting pay will range between $25.00 – $35.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full‑time, hourly position.
