Guardiar is seeking a Service Technician to troubleshoot and repair automated barrier and bollard systems in NJ. You will perform preventive maintenance per OEM specs and assist with parts orders, service tickets, and documentation.

This field-service role requires hands-on troubleshooting of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and control systems, plus strong communication with customers and internal teams. Travel to customer sites, including after-hours as needed, is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of field service repair experience.
  • Experience with PLC/VFD troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Experience communicating with property management and facility professionals.
  • Forklift operation experience is a plus.

Salary Range: $30.00 To $40.00 Hourly

Job Summary:

The Service Technician is accountable for troubleshooting malfunctioning or disabled automated, anti-vehicular barrier and bollard equipment to determine the root cause of malfunction or failure and take appropriate action to return the equipment to operational condition. The Service Technician is also responsible for performing preventative maintenance procedures on this equipment as detailed by the original equipment manufacturer. The technician will support the Service Coordinator in identifying the required replacement materials for repairs and assist with part ordering when needed.

Essential Accountabilities:
  • Perform maintenance and repair of anti-vehicular barriers, bollards, and crash beams
  • Troubleshoot to root cause and repair customer equipment using approved replacement parts
  • Execute preventative maintenance procedures in accordance with OEM recommendations
  • Complete preventative maintenance checklists, service tickets, and time sheets accurately and submit within 24 hours of work completion
  • Provide repair estimates to service coordinator
  • Provide feedback to the Service Manager and Sales Department regarding equipment condition and end-of-life assessments
  • Support problem resolution efforts under the guidance of senior technicians or management
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Lead Technician and Service Manager to coordinate daily field activities, priorities, troubleshooting, repairs, preventative maintenance, commissioning, and customer requirements.
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls and participate in scheduled night, weekend, and travel work when required by customer contracts, site conditions, or department needs.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, safety loops, control panels, and related field devices within the technician's level of training and authorization.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startup, functional testing, inspection, and project-to-service handoff activities as assigned.
  • Clearly identify and document equipment deficiencies, failed or worn components, safety concerns, recommended repairs, and follow-up work required.
  • Communicate job status, delays, additional work requirements, unresolved technical issues, and customer concerns promptly to the Lead Technician and/or Service Manager.
  • Maintain professional communication with customer representatives, facility personnel, security personnel, contractors, and other site stakeholders while representing the company.
  • Complete service tickets, preventative-maintenance checklists, time records, photographs, parts usage, and other required documentation accurately and within established department timelines.
  • Maintain accountability for company tools, test equipment, service vehicles, laptops, parts, materials, and other company-issued equipment assigned to or used by the technician.
  • Follow company safety procedures and all customer/site-specific safety, access, security, prevailing-wage, and work-rule requirements.
  • Assist with identification of required replacement parts and provide accurate technical information to the Service Administrator/Coordinator, Lead Technician, and Service Manager to support parts ordering and repair proposals.
  • Support training and development of other technicians by sharing technical knowledge, field experience, troubleshooting methods, and proper service procedures when requested.
  • Maintain readiness for field assignments, including required tools, PPE, documentation, parts, and customer/site information before dispatch.
Key Performance Parameters:
  • Demonstrate consistent performance in executing service requests and preventative maintenance
  • Contribute to operational efficiency and service quality improvements
  • Assist in resolving service issues under supervision when required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electromechanical equipment, including electric and electronic controls
  • Basic to moderate knowledge of electricity, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
  • Strong communication skills in verbal and written forms
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and computer-based systems related to service work
  • Forklift operation experience is a plus
Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of field service experience in electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical equipment repair
  • PLC/VFD troubleshooting experience is a plus
  • Experience communicating with property management and facility professionals

  • Technician must be able to safely perform physical field-service work involving industrial equipment, tools, lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and work in indoor/outdoor environments as required by the assignment.
Job Location:

New Jersey-based, with availability for regional and out-of-state travel as required to support customer and business needs.
