Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Greensboro, NC, seeks a Service Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotary screw and reciprocating air compressors and related components on customer sites.

You will diagnose issues, provide corrective actions, train customers and field staff, and document work clearly for billing. The role requires mechanical aptitude, precision, and strong safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
  • Experience with compressed-air systems, centrifugal technologies, or solid controls is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanic’s tools; specialty tools will be provided.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC circuits, wiring diagrams, motors, controls, PLCs, HVAC electricity, refrigeration systems, and/or refrigerant certification is desired.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least 12 months with no major traffic violations.
  • EPA 608, F‑GAS 303/2008, CE, or ISHRAE certification preferred.

  • Submit detailed technical reports suitable for billing customers.
  • Record accurate, detailed, and timely expense and time‑card reports.

Service Technician

Location: Greensboro, NC

The Service Technician supports Ingersoll Rand’s Industrial Technologies and Services Division by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all types of rotary screw and reciprocating air compressors, along with related compressed‑air system components. The role requires precision measurement, diagnostic skills, and a strong knowledge of equipment and parts manuals.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure correct installation, maintenance, and field repair of Ingersoll Rand equipment at customer sites.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of field installation and repair requirements.
  • Provide technical advice and train customers, potential customers, field salesmen, and field service trainees.
  • Diagnose problems, recommend corrective actions, and submit clear, accurate records and oral reports.
  • Maintain integrity in handling business affairs.
  • Communicate written and oral information concisely and logically.
  • Submit detailed technical reports suitable for billing customers.
  • Record accurate, detailed, and timely expense and time‑card reports.
Basic Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems; experience with compressed‑air systems, centrifugal technologies, or solid controls is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanic’s set of tools; specialty tools will be provided.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC circuits, wiring diagrams, motors, controls, PLCs, HVAC electricity, refrigeration systems, and/or refrigerant certification is desired.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least 12 months with no major traffic violations.

Physical Requirements
  • Work in diverse conditions, including mechanical equipment rooms and exposure to noise and extreme weather.
  • Regularly lift or move weight limits as per safety policy.
Travel & Work Arrangements
  • Occasional travel for training; 1–2 times per year for one week.
  • Participation in an on‑call rotation for customer emergencies, including evenings and weekends.
Key Competencies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and handheld computers.
  • Customer service skills: conflict resolution, communication, negotiation.
  • Cost‑efficient business travel practices.
  • Mechanical competency to diagnose and troubleshoot compressor systems.
