Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Service Technician for the East Area to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotary screw and reciprocating air compressors and related equipment.

You will diagnose problems, provide technical guidance to customers and trainees, and submit clear reports. A strong mechanical background and HVAC knowledge are essential for success in field service roles.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience troubleshooting industrial/mechanical systems, incl. compressed air equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical program preferred.
  • EPA 608 / F-GAS certification preferred; refrigerant knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain compressor systems at customer sites.
  • Provide technical advice and train customers and field staff.
  • Diagnose issues, propose corrective actions, submit detailed reports.
  • Maintain records and timecards; manage expenses and logistics weekly.
  • Support on‑call rotations and respond to emergencies as needed.

Location

Multiple positions located at or near our East Customer Center Locations – Allentown, PA; Aston, PA; Edison, NJ; Marlborough, MA; Scarborough, ME; Shrewsbury, PA; Richmond, VA; Greensboro, NC; Charlotte, NC. This role is typically not eligible for relocation. Job Summary

The Service Technician for Ingersoll Rand’s Industrial Technologies and Services Division serves customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all makes of rotary screw and reciprocating, and/or Centac and ECC air compressors, along with additional compressed air system components. You will use precision measuring tools for diagnostic trouble shooting of compressed air equipment and must have knowledge of all operations and parts manuals associated with all equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure correct installation, maintenance, and field repair of the equipment manufactured and sold by Ingersoll Rand at the purchaser’s location.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of field installation and repair requirements of this equipment.
  • Provide technical advice and train customers, potential customers, field salesmen, and field service trainees.
  • Diagnose problems, recommend corrective action, and submit clear, accurate records and/or oral reports to the manufacturing facility.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity in handling business affairs.
  • Maintain proper written and oral communication skills to transfer information related to service work in a concise and logical manner.
  • Submit detailed technical reports on each service call in a legible fashion, suitable for billing customers.
  • Submit accurate, detailed and timely expense account records along with timecards on a weekly basis, maintaining good financial records and practices to manage company business matters, credit cards, and if required, a company car.
  • Substitute for on‑call rotation and respond to customer emergencies during evenings or weekends as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • 2‑5 years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems, with experience on compressed air systems, centrifugal technologies, or solid controls being a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Desired degree program in Electrical/Electronic Technology or HVAC with basic knowledge of AC/DC circuits, wiring diagrams/schematics, motors/controls, PLCs, HVAC electricity, controls, refrigeration systems, and/or refrigerant certification. Military experience and/or substantial mechanical working experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with a clean driving record.
  • EPA 608 / F‑GAS 303/2008/CE/ISHRAE certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Work in diverse conditions including mechanical equipment rooms, exposure to noisy operating equipment, extreme weather, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock with NFPA or equivalent standards.
  • Highly physical; regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling; must lift and move weight limits per safety policy.
Travel & Work Arrangements
  • Occasional travel for training (1‑2 times per year for one week at a time).
  • Included in an on‑call rotation for customer emergencies in evenings or weekends.
Key Competencies
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software and basic computer usage; proficiency with handheld computer devices (smartphone, iPad) and network basics.
  • Customer service skills such as conflict resolution, communication, and negotiation.
  • Ability to maintain proper business travel practices in a cost‑efficient manner.
  • Mechanical competency to learn, diagnose, and troubleshoot compressor systems and machinery.
