Service Technician (South Area)

Location

Multiple positions located at or near our southeast US Customer Center Locations – Norcross, GA; Knoxville, TN; Nashville, TN; Moody, AL; Greer, SC; New Orleans, LA. This role is typically not eligible for relocation.

Schedule

Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Pay Range

Starting pay will range between $25.00 – $35.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full‑time hourly position. $3,000 sign‑on bonus!

Job Overview

The Field Service Technician for our Compression Systems and Services Division serves customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all makes of rotary screw, reciprocating, Centac, and ECC air compressors, and additional compressed‑air system components. You will use precision measuring tools for diagnostic troubleshooting and will need knowledge of all operations and parts manuals associated with all equipment.

Responsibilities

In addition to performing preventative maintenance on Ingersoll Rand compressed‑air equipment, service technicians interact with customers to address existing and unanticipated equipment concerns, collaborate with Service Coordinators on ordering and gathering parts and supplies necessary to complete installations and repairs, and assist and train apprentices and fellow Field Service Technicians.

  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with customers and co‑workers.
  • Provides technical assistance on equipment pre‑commissioning and start‑ups, installations, and repairs of compressed‑air systems, including hands‑on work to assure equipment operates to customer’s requirement with limited guidance from the Master Technician.
  • Increases customers’ awareness of how Ingersoll Rand products, services, and solutions, such as preventative maintenance, diagnostics, audits, and leak detection, can benefit their operations.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with no major or frequent traffic violations (e.g., DUI, Hit & Run, license suspension, reckless driving, etc.) in the past 5 years.
  • Full‑time on‑call availability; the first 90 days do not include on‑call duties. On‑call weeks occur as often as every 4 weeks or more, as determined by the hiring manager.
  • Strong physical capability to use hands, fingers, walk, stoop, and kneel; ability to lift and move weights in line with the safety policy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Core Competencies
  • Ability to read wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of network systems installations (IMMC/ASC, X Series Automation).
  • Basic vibration troubleshooting.
  • Basic air‑quality troubleshooting (compressor/dryer – air treatment).
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and other basic computer usage; proficiency with handheld computers (e.g., smartphone, iPad) and network‑based systems.
  • Maintain proper business‑travel practices in a cost‑efficient manner.
Preferences
  • Industrial air compressor maintenance & knowledge.
  • EPA certification.
  • Veterans/Active‑Duty Military encouraged to apply.
Travel & Work Arrangements
  • Daily travel within a 3‑hour radius of the service area.
  • Company vehicle and fuel card will be provided.
