Position Summary

The Service Technician is a senior-level field technician responsible for the expert-level inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of complex low-voltage systems, including burglar alarms, fire alarms, CCTV, and access control systems. This role requires deep technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently under minimal supervision. The technician is expected to lead by example in both service execution and customer interaction, ensuring high-quality results and professionalism at every job site. In addition to direct service responsibilities, the Service Technician may also mentor and support junior technicians, contribute to technical training, and uphold safety and compliance standards across all service activities.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain burglar alarms, fire alarms, card access, and CCTV systems.
  • Identify and resolve issues with damaged wiring, electrical components, or system programming.
  • Conduct system tests, including backup batteries, keypad functionality, and full operational reviews.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to ensure long-term functionality.
  • Demonstrate and explain system features and false alarm causes to customers.
  • Provide thorough documentation of service activity, time logs, and work orders.
  • Coordinate inspections and installations with appropriate local agencies (fire, police, etc.).
  • Communicate status updates to customers and service dispatch team.
  • Maintain control and upkeep of company property, including tools, inventory, and vehicle.
  • Train and support junior technicians when needed.
  • Remain on-call during scheduled rotation, responding promptly to emergency service calls.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and company policies while representing Advance Alarms professionally.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills:

The ideal candidate possesses advanced troubleshooting skills in low-voltage electrical, networked, and mechanical systems, along with excellent interpersonal and customer service abilities. They can effectively read and interpret technical documents and blueprints and are proficient with power tools, ladders, and standard field equipment. Strong time management and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to write clear, concise service reports and communicate findings accurately. The candidate must be flexible, dependable, and capable of maintaining confidentiality. Proficiency in using GPS, smartphones, and computer systems to complete job-related tasks is also required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in the low-voltage industry or related technical service field.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Trade certifications or licenses in security/fire systems, electrical work, or HVAC.
  • Experience in residential and commercial system servicing.
  • Familiarity with industry tools and software (DMP, Honeywell, Sedona, etc.).
  • Knowledge of building codes, fire alarm codes, and inspection procedures.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Field-based position with frequent physical activity and exposure to construction environments.
  • Regular lifting and carrying of tools, wire, and ladders weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, bending, crawling, and reaching.
  • Frequent use of hand and power tools requiring fine motor skills and repetitive motion.
  • Frequent driving to and from job sites; occasional out-of-area travel may be required.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather, extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, vibrations, and loud noise is common.
  • Occasional risk of electrical shock; PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe shoes is required.
  • Regular visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception needed for wire identification and safety.
  • Strong cognitive function required to understand workflow, follow safety protocols, and plan work effectively.
