Job summary

Tech Electronics is seeking a Service Technician – Fire Alarm to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain fire alarm and life safety systems at customer sites. You will diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure systems operate safely and in compliance with codes and manufacturer specs.

Qualifications

  • NICET certification in progress or equivalent.
  • Experience with multiple fire alarm manufacturers and platforms.
  • Fire alarm inspection and testing experience.
  • Experience with access control or other low-voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 and local codes.
  • Prior service/field technician experience.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and service fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • Install, program, replace, and modify fire alarm components as needed.
  • Read drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and documentation.
  • Operate test equipment and diagnostic tools to identify problems.
  • Document work, deficiencies, repairs, and parts used.
  • Communicate findings to customers, PMs, and teams.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, inventory, and company vehicle.
  • Participate in on-call or emergency service rotations.

Position Summary

The Service Technician – Fire Alarm is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and maintaining fire alarm and life safety systems at customer locations. This role works directly with customers to diagnose system issues, complete service calls, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure systems operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with applicable codes and manufacturer requirements.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with fire alarm systems, strong troubleshooting skills, a customer-service mindset, and the ability to work independently in the field.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and service fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • Identify system deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Install, program, replace, and modify fire alarm system components as needed.
  • Work with fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, power supplies, modules, detectors, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret system drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and documentation.
  • Use appropriate test equipment and diagnostic tools to identify system problems.
  • Verify proper operation of repaired or serviced systems.
  • Document service work, system deficiencies, repairs, and materials used.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to customers, project managers, and internal teams.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable fire alarm codes, standards, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, inventory, and company vehicle.
  • Participate in on-call or emergency service rotations as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of fire alarm technology, products, codes, and industry practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • NICET certification or progress toward certification.
  • Experience with multiple fire alarm manufacturers and platforms.
  • Fire alarm inspection and testing experience.
  • Experience with access control, security, or other low-voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable local codes.
  • Previous experience in a service technician or field service role.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms.
  • Ability to distinguish different wire colors and read small labels and displays.
  • Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
