Summary of the role
  • The Deployments Support & Automation Engineer supports the deployment of releases for our Self-Service products, such as Kiosks and Auto Bag Drops. Releases are built by a dedicated R&D team; this role takes those releases and deploys them safely into customer environments across frontend, middleware and backend components.
  • Around 70% of the role is deployments and the change management that goes with them, from receiving the request through to implementation. The remaining 30% is automation: alerting, monitoring and deployment scripts that make deployments faster and more reliable.
In this role you’ll
Deployments (70%)
  • Deploy R&D releases, upgrades and fixes for Self-Service products (Kiosks, Auto Bag Drops, etc.) across frontend, middleware and backend components.
  • Carry out pre-deployment checks and post-deployment verification to confirm products are working before handover.
  • Roll back deployments when needed and work with R&D to resolve deployment issues.
  • Coordinate deployment windows with customers, sites and internal teams, including out-of-hours where required.
  • Keep deployment runbooks and documentation up to date and hand over knowledge to support teams.
Change Management and Admin
  • Receive and work through requests (RITMs) from customers and internal teams.
  • Prepare change requests (CRs), including implementation, test and rollback plans.
  • Review change requests raised by other engineers for quality and completeness.
  • Implement approved changes and close them off with the right records.
  • Handle change and admin work on behalf of other engineers so they can stay focused on technical delivery.
Automation (30%)
  • Build and tune monitoring and alerting for Self-Service products.
  • Write and maintain deployment scripts and pipelines to make deployments consistent and repeatable.
  • Automate routine operational tasks and reduce manual effort.
  • Support and Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot deployment and production issues and resolve them or elevate to R&D.
  • Support high severity incidents and be available on the standby roster.
  • Assist with environment setup for new projects, including AWS infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
About the Ideal Candidate
  • 2 to 5 years' experience in deployment, DevOps/SRE/Platform or application support.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications in production environments.
  • Good understanding of change management (ITIL) and working with RITMs and change requests.
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell & Python) for automation and deployments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and alerting.
  • Experience with AWS and Windows and Linux environments.
  • Kubernetes experience is a strong advantage.
  • ITIL or AWS certifications are a plus.
  • Organized, detail-focused and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Clear communicator, comfortable working with R&D, customers and teams across time zones.
