Job summary

The University of Scranton is hiring a Service Officer in University Police to help provide a safe and secure environment on campus. The role involves patrolling campus buildings and grounds, responding to incidents, and supporting events and health clinics.

Open Date: 07/23/2026; Close Date: 08/06/2026. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Employment is Full-Time/Part-Time, Non-Exempt. The university values dignity, respect, and the Catholic and Jesuit mission.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff members and guests of the University community.
  • Patrol the interior and exterior of academic and administrative buildings and on campus property to deter crime.
  • Maintain knowledge of buildings, fire alarm panels, intrusion alarms and locking procedures.
  • Respond to incidents including accidents, illnesses, requests for assistance, walking safety escorts, medical escorts.
  • Provide security at special events, athletic events and health clinics.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Be able to activate the Emergency Notification System.
  • Patrol parking lots and the parking garage and inspect vehicles for decals, issue tickets and tow violators when appropriate.
  • Background investigation including criminal record check, driving record, and drug screen.

Job Purpose

  • Must be of good moral character; any candidate offered employment, must submit to a background investigation, to include: criminal record check for convictions of any disqualifying criminal offense, driving record, and drug screen for any illegal controlled substance
