Job summary

Purdue University’s Operations and Maintenance team is seeking a versatile maintenance helper to assist with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, plastering and locksmithing tasks. You will respond to work orders, troubleshoot issues, and propose effective fixes to keep campus facilities in top shape.

The role is posted as S1 or S2 depending on experience, with a Monday–Friday schedule, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Starting pay ranges from $18.39 to $22.37 per hour, plus benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• 0-1 years of general maintenance work experience (S1).
• 3+ years of general maintenance work experience (S2).
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and instructions; basic math functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a variety of building repair and maintenance duties (plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, plastering, locksmithing).
• Respond to and prioritize work orders; troubleshoot and diagnose problems.
• Recommend appropriate repairs and maintenance solutions.
• Support team to keep Purdue University facilities running smoothly.

Job description

Assist with a variety of building repair and maintenance duties for Operations and Maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, plastering, and locksmithing. Respond to and prioritize work orders, assist with troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, and recommend appropriate repairs and maintenance solutions.

This position is being posted as a dual-level opportunity and may be filled as either S1 or S2, with the hiring manager determining the appropriate classification based on the selected candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The starting hourly rate ranges from $18.39 to $22.37, plus benefits. Final compensation will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

• Proficiency in one or more of the following: basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting, plastering and locksmith fields

• Competencies for this position are work standards and productivity, communication, interpersonal and intercultural relations, decision making, and dependability; may include financial, coaching, delegation, and planning
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and coworkers, and customers
• Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, and stand, walk or stoop extensively
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds
• A valid US or Canadian driver's license
