Job summary
Purdue University is seeking an Associate Custodian or Custodian to maintain a clean, safe campus environment across classrooms, offices, labs, and public spaces. You will develop relationships with building occupants, manage access, perform groundskeeping, and respond to campus crises as needed.
Starting pay is $15.00 per hour with a $0.70 shift differential, totaling $15.70 hourly. This union-friendly, non-exempt role offers PTO, retirement contributions, tuition assistance, and comprehensive

- Must complete onboarding training within 90 days
- Able to read, speak, and understand English
- Basic math skills and good work organization
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs, up to 60 lbs occasionally
- Work outdoors up to 10% in extreme temperatures

Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment in University facilities. Learn to provide custodial services for the University in areas such as classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces.
- Develop relationships with building occupants and respond to requests.
- Provide building access by locking and unlocking areas as scheduled by the department.
- Perform groundskeeping, snow removal, and other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
- Respond to campus crisis situations as required to enhance public safety and minimize infrastructure damage.
- Contribute to Purdue’s $600 million research enterprise by maintaining a clean and healthy environment that supports innovation and discovery.

This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as an Associate Custodian or Custodian. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
Monday-Thursday + Sunday, 2:00pm to 10:30pm
$15.00 plus $0.70 shift differential for a total of $15.70 per hour

- Must complete onboarding training, or be enrolled in program within 90 days of hire
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others
- Basic math skills and good work organization
- Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment
- Must be able to work well with others and work in a team environment
- Learn and follow safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment as required
- Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
- Work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees
- Six months of custodial experience
- 24 months of total work experience
- Must complete onboarding training, or be enrolled in program, within 90 days of hire
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others
- Basic math skills and good organization required
- Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment
- Must be able to work well with others and work in a team environment
- Learn and follow safety procedures; including the wearing personal protective equipment as required
- Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 60 lbs occasionally required
- Work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees
- One year of general work experience
- A valid US or Canadian Driver's License
