Job summary

Purdue University in Indianapolis is seeking a Multi-Craft Crew Chief to lead hands-on maintenance, oversee repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance across multiple trades to keep campus facilities reliable and safe. You will use blueprints and SAP to diagnose issues, prioritize workloads, and coordinate with campus partners to ensure project success.

This role requires 5+ years of craft experience, strong leadership and communication, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in Carpentry, Electrical, General Construction, Indoor Air Quality, Masonry, Plumbing/steam fitting, Refrigeration, Sheet Metal or Welding.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support maintenance personnel in completing work orders safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Perform and oversee repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance across multiple trades.
  • Utilize blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, computer applications, and maintenance systems to diagnose and resolve facility issues.
  • Assist with prioritizing workloads, troubleshooting complex maintenance challenges, and monitoring daily operations.
  • Coordinate with vendors, engineers, contractors, administrators, and campus partners to ensure successful project completion.
  • Identify and address safety concerns, implement corrective actions, and promote a safe work environment.
  • Create, manage, and close work orders within SAP.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including after‑hours call‑backs related to facility emergencies, fire, or vandalism.

What We're Looking For

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in either Carpentry, Electrical, General Construction, Indoor Air Quality, Masonry, Plumbing and/or steam fitting, Refrigeration, Sheet Metal or Welding
  • Valid driver's license required

Preferred:

  • College coursework or Vocational/Technical school

Skills Required:

  • Must:
    • have strong verbal and written communication skills
    • be able to learn and work with SAP
    • have general craft knowledge including but not limited to Carpentry, Electrical, General Construction, Indoor Air Quality, Masonry, Plumbing and/or steam fitting, Refrigeration, Sheet Metal or Welding
  • Computer skills/familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets required
  • Ability to:
    • perform complex mathematical calculations required
    • successfully complete supervisory training courses
