General Description and Classification Standards:
The Airport Server Engineer provides hands‑on technical support and subject‑matter expertise for the City of Atlanta’s email messaging infrastructure, including Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Teams, Office 365, the Proofpoint mail gateway, SMTP relay systems, and related protocols. The role involves designing and supporting messaging solutions, establishing standards and policies, resolving complex technical issues, and helping introduce new capabilities across the enterprise messaging environment.
Supervision Received:
This is a fully seasoned professional level (senior level) capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience –
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering (Additional years of experience may be considered as a substitute for the required degree on an exceptional basis, with a minimum of nine (9) years of professional related experience); and
2. five (5) years of specific virtual server experience.
Licensures and Certifications –
1. Preferred certifications (not required): MCSA, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP for Exchange, Teams, or Office 365.
2. Strong understanding of ITIL concepts (certification preferred but not required).
3. Advanced degree is a plus.
Preferred Requirements – Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the degree on an exception basis) with five (5) – eight (8) years of experience that is directly related professional work.
