Server Administrator (IT System Administrator II)

Position Overview

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University seeks an experienced Windows Server Administrator to join the core server and storage management team.

The successful candidate will have strong experience with Windows server management, a solid foundation in server security, knowledge of security standards such as ISO 27002 or NIST SP800-171, and experience with Active Directory, MECM, InTune, GPOs, and Defender.

The administrator will support university operations, participate in cloud migrations and on-premise upgrades, and may have remote work options but must be able to work on campus as required.

The role involves managing and securing the university's servers, storage, and backup systems, designing servers, installing and hardening operating systems and applications, managing security and updates, and ensuring efficient and secure server operations.

The administrator reports to the Director of Network and System Administration and collaborates with the ITS operations and security teams.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Information Technology Services (ITS) supports the university's mission by providing IT infrastructure, software, hardware, and support to achieve strategic goals. ITS comprises nine departments that work to provide IT support and services for operational excellence and technological advancement.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with two (2) years of server management and security experience in an enterprise setting, including Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, GPOs, MECM, InTune, Defender, or similar.
2. Bachelor's degree in the same fields with three (3) years of relevant experience.
3. Equivalent additional experience may be considered.
4. Technical knowledge of enterprise management and security of physical and virtual servers in on-premises and cloud environments.
5. Knowledge of security standards such as ISO 27002, NIST SP 800-171, or PCI DSS.
6. Ability to develop and follow complex technical policies, procedures, and guidelines.
7. Strong troubleshooting skills and technical expertise.
8. Customer service orientation and ability to collaborate effectively within teams.
9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse constituencies.
10. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining communication.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Five (5) years of server management and support experience with the listed tools.
2. Advanced degree related to the position.
3. Experience managing and securing Linux servers.
4. Experience with CrowdStrike EDR, Delinea Privilege Manager, and Veeam backup systems.
5. Experience with vulnerability management, incident response, server forensics, and evidence handling.
