Job summary

Kirkwood in Houston is seeking motivated servers to join a new upscale dining concept, committed to world-class service and culinary excellence.

You will guide guests through the menu, coordinate with kitchen and bar, and maintain a polished, fast-paced service environment. Must have food handler and state alcohol server certificates; experience in fine dining is preferred. Flexible nights/weekends required.

Responsibilities

• Provide warm, attentive service reflecting elevated standards.
• Guide guests through the menu with knowledge of ingredients and chef recommendations.
• Take accurate food and beverage orders and input into the POS system.
• Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely, precise service.
• Monitor guest satisfaction and address concerns professionally.
• Handle guest payments, including credit cards and checks, with integrity and accuracy.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in assigned sections and service areas.
• Follow all steps of service including table settings and pacing.

What We Are Looking For

• Previous experience in serving, preferably in upscale or fine dining.
• Strong knowledge of food, wine, and beverage pairing
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively
• Must be able to work nights, weekends and some holidays.
• Flexible schedule helpful.
• Valid Food Handler Certificate required.
• Valid State Alcohol Server Certificate required.

What you’ll do:

• Provide warm, welcoming, and attentive service that reflects the elevated standards of our restaurant.
• Guide guests through the menu, offering detailed knowledge of ingredients, preparation methods, and chef recommendations.
• Take accurate food and beverage orders and input them into the POS system efficiently.
• Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely, precise, and elegant service.
• Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience and address any concerns promptly and professionally.
• Read and interpret guest cues, including body language, tone, and pacing. To understand the type of dining experience they’re seeking and adjust service style to create the proper atmosphere.
• Tailor the experience to each guest, creating memorable moments that feel personal, encouraging return visits, and helping cultivate a loyal regular clientele.
• Proactively identify allergy or dietary needs, clearly understand which menu items can be modified, and provide confident, informed recommendations to ensure safety while still delivering an exceptional dining experience.
• Maintain a polished, composed presence in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.
• Follow all steps of service, including table settings, course pacing, and check presentation.
• Handle guest concerns with professionalism, escalating to management when needed.
• Handle guest payments accurately, including processing credit cards, managing split checks, and handling cash with integrity and accountability.
• Balance and reconcile cash and receipts at the end of each shift as required.
• Ensure cleanliness and order in assigned sections, side stations, and service areas.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
• Support team members and contribute to a positive, respectful workplace culture.
• Attend mandatory meetings and complete company-assigned training.
• Maintain uniform standards and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
• Adhere to a reliable work schedule and perform duties safely.
• Perform other tasks, including cross-training in different areas, as assigned by management.
