Job summary

The Alaska Department of Public Safety, including the Alaska State Troopers, seeks a Sergeant to lead the DPS Training Academy staff and oversee day-to-day operations for instructors and a large student cohort. Responsibilities include evaluating instructors, guiding classes of 50+ students, and ensuring alignment with state statutes, manuals, and contracts.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience as a law enforcement officer certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council or equivalent agency.
• Experience as a State Trooper with the State of Alaska preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, mentor, and provide feedback for DPS Training Academy staff instructors (corporals).
• Provide instruction, leadership skills, mentoring and performance documentation for classes of 50+ students with diverse backgrounds.
• Collaborate with federal, state, local agencies and academy contractors.
• Model professional attitude, judgment, maturity, and discipline for staff and students.
• Understand and execute the commander's intent and daily administrative tasks with attention to detail.
• Maintain knowledge of policies in the OPM, SOP, Alaska Statutes, Admin Manual, and labor contracts.
