Job summary

The Alaska Department of Public Safety is recruiting to attend the DPS Training Academy beginning January 2027 and July 2027. Successful candidates will be appointed as Alaska State Trooper Recruit or Alaska State Trooper, with wages and benefits while attending the academy.

Wage increased by 4% effective July 1, 2026. Training is provided at no expense and includes potential assignments across our training posts in Fairbanks, Palmer/Wasilla, Soldotna, and Sitka.

Qualifications

• Must be conversant in both spoken and written English.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at the start of the academy.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Not disqualified from any portion of a prior background investigation for the last 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Attend the Alaska DPS Training Academy (January 2027 or July 2027).
• Join as Alaska State Trooper Recruit or Alaska State Trooper based on qualifications.
• Perform duties as assigned in rural, highway, near-urban patrols, and investigations.
