This position is the lead level of work involving the security and care of patients at Maryland Department of Health (MDH) facilities where care is provided to offenders, patients, or residents with behavioral health diagnoses who have been judged not criminally responsible for committing felonies; and to those who are too violent for a regular hospital or residential setting and who have been deemed dangerous to themselves or others. This position does not supervise other positions, but are responsible for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of and training lower-level Security Attendants.
This position receives general supervision from a Security Attendant Supervisor. This position is assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts. This position is subject to call-in during emergencies and staffing shortages. Employees may be required to move and position patients or apply physical restraints.
Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.
This position is differentiated from Security Attendant II in that this position assigns, reviews and approves the work of and trains lower-level Security Attendants while the Security Attendant II performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision. This position is differentiated from Security Attendant Supervisor in that Security Attendant Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Security Attendants in a specific area.
