Job summary

The State of South Carolina seeks a Security Supervisor to oversee shift personnel, ensure safety, and enforce procedures in a correctional environment.

You will participate in evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling, while remaining familiar with shift activities to inform subordinates of changes and maintain order.

Qualifications

• Security supervision experience preferred.

• Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job description

• Remains familiar with all activities occurring during the shift to keep subordinates informed of changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Makes routine and non-routine security checksof work areas, living area units
• Conductscounts, (formal and non-formal)
• Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action.
• Instructs and counsels inmates as required.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
• Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
