Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Manager Software Engineering 2 for the Sentinel program in Roy, UT. The role leads a software team, drives design, development, and verification of mission-critical software, and ensures compliance with DO-178 and EVMS processes.

The candidate will manage staff up to 20% while coordinating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment and maintaining strong customer relations for critical defense projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of related experience in software development; or Master’s with 6 years of experience; or 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance, current and within scope, with ability to obtain and maintain SAP.
  • Experience with Agile principles including Kanban and Scrum.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Manager Software Engineering 2. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug software/system applications.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of embedded systems for safety and mission critical software.
  • Collaborate with a team of software engineers in an Agile environment to meet critical milestones.
  • Ensure program mandated software standards and compliance criteria are met.
  • Understand and can develop in a continuous integration tool chain environment meeting technical and compliance requirements.
Functional Management Responsibilities
  • This is a dual‑hat position requiring the candidate to perform functional management activities as well as program responsibilities. Functional management will comprise up to 20% of the candidate’s time.
  • Assess staffing needs, both current and projected, and work with the respective team leads to address those needs.
  • Support recruitment activities including the creation of requisitions, conducting interviews, and approving offers.
  • Lead a team of system software engineers, providing guidance and assigning work regarding the system software architecture and requirements of GNC software to ensure alignment with system architecture.

Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 – $208,700.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of related experience in software development; or Master’s with 6 years of experience; or 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP).
  • Experience with Agile principles including Kanban and Scrum.
  • Experience in software development using languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), software design, and requirement management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Experience leading Software Engineering teams.
  • At least 1‑year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.
  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues and predict potential programmatic and technical risks.
  • Operates independently with limited or no supervision and can establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, peers, and customers.
  • Ability to assimilate information from multiple sources, create coherent plans, and execute them.
  • Experience with executing software development processes.
  • CAM certification or willingness to obtain within first 6 months.
  • Familiarity with DO178 and processes that cover the software development lifecycle.
  • Understands best practices required for the development of Safety Critical Software Development.
