Job summary

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Zoning Inspector to enforce the Hamilton Zoning Ordinance and serve as a unified compliance officer across municipal codes.

Responsibilities include inspecting, investigating, and enforcing zoning, vacant property registration, property maintenance, and right-of-way ordinances, with collaboration from the Planning Director and other City staff. The role requires exceptional communication skills to explain complex regulations to property owners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Minimum of four years' experience in code enforcement and/or zoning.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Enforce Zoning Code and related ordinances across properties.
• Inspect properties, interview violators, and determine violations.
• Prepare non-compliance cases and testify in court when required.
• Coordinate inspections with Building Officials and Police.
• Explain regulations to owners, tenants, and contractors.
