Job summary

Hamilton County, Ohio is seeking a Building Inspector in Cincinnati, OH. The role conducts independent field inspections of residential and limited commercial projects to ensure compliance with the Ohio Building Code, Residential Code of Ohio, and County ordinances.

You will plan daily inspections, communicate code requirements to contractors and property owners, and document findings in the County’s inspection management system. Open Until Filled with competitive benefits and parking on-site.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license issued by the state of residence.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of the County’s Building Inspector Trainee program, or at least five (5) years of skilled trades or construction experience qualifying for OBBS Level 2 RLC.
• Certification: OBBS Level 2 Residential Limited Commercial (RLC) within 36 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of residential and limited commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and County standards.
• Document inspection results and maintain permit records in County systems; record outcomes, comments, and photographs.
• Communicate inspection requirements and corrective actions to contractors, homeowners, and the public; coordinate re-inspections and ensure compliance.
