Job summary

Optum is seeking a Principal Infrastructure & Operations Engineer specializing in zSystems Mainframe Network Programming to join our enterprise infrastructure team. You will configure, tune, and optimize high-availability mainframe networking across z/OS Communications Server, VTAM, TCP/IP, and file transfer protocols, leveraging AI to streamline workflows and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of mainframe network system programming experience.
10+ years of mainframe system programming experience with TSO/ISPF.
10+ years of experience configuring, tuning, and troubleshooting zSeries Communications Services (VTAM, TCP/IP, TN3270).
5+ years of experience utilizing network monitoring tools (NetView, MainView, or OMEGAMON).
3+ years of experience installing, configuring, and supporting Connect Direct / NDM.

Responsibilities

Configure, tune, and troubleshoot z/OS Communications Server and VTAM, TCP/IP, FTP tasks.
Install, configure, and maintain Connect Direct/NDM and file transfer protocols.
Define and maintain Policy Agent configurations and OSA definitions.
Provide advanced troubleshooting and performance optimization with mainframe network monitoring tools.
Serve in an on-call rotation to support maintenance windows and weekend work.
Use AI tools to streamline workflows, analyze data, and drive process improvements.
Evaluate AI trends for LinuxOne and mainframe programming to inform strategy.
