Job summary

Friends of the Children – Utah seeks a dedicated Mentor (Friend) to provide intensive, eight-child companionship over 12+ years. You will build trusting, goal-oriented relationships, support academic and personal development, and navigate educational systems with families.

The role requires non-traditional hours including afternoons, evenings, and some weekends. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, with at least two years of relevant experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; combination of education and experience will be considered.
• At least 2 years of experience working with children and families; mentoring preferred.
• Must pass full criminal background and MVR checks; valid driver’s license and vehicle required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain long-term, caring relationships with each child.
• Spend 3–4 hours weekly with each youth in home, school, and community.
• Set goals with youth and caregivers; create plans to meet them.
• Teach life skills and healthy habits; promote confidence and self-esteem.
• Provide enrichment resources and opportunities for cultural awareness.
• Support youth in behavioral management and emotional regulation.
• Model good problem solving and decision making for youth.
• Build positive relationships with families, teachers, and others involved.
• Advocate for additional resources and services as needed.
• Assist with navigating school systems to support academics.
