Job summary

Howden is seeking a Senior Underwriter for the Transactional Risk division in North America. You will guide complex workers’ compensation submissions, manage risk with sound judgment, and mentor junior underwriters within a high-performing team.

You’ll evaluate safety programs, loss trends, and profitability, while collaborating with brokers to expand relationships and drive results in a dynamic market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, finance, or business is required.
• 5–8 years of relevant underwriting experience.
• CPCU or AU designations preferred.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite complex insurance risks within granted authority and analyze exposures.
• Ensure submissions meet underwriting standards and profitability.
• Curate a portfolio per guidelines with discretion to optimize results.
• Identify changes in risk exposures and loss trends to maximize profitability.
• Collaborate to define team production goals and mentoring where needed.
• Quote and bind accounts, gathering information as required.
• Travel up to 25% for client meetings and industry events.
• Stay current on market dynamics and communicate insights to the group.
